What exactly is Human Centered Design (HCD)
Human centered design is the skillset that helps company focus on what's important by merging what users want, with what business plan to achieve and the technology that is available to your business based on it's circumstances.
I've hired UX/HCD before and it hasn't paid off. Why should I hire you?
UX/HCD tends to lead to better outcomes. In 25 years I have never seen the process of UX/HCD under-deliver. If you have tried it before and it didn't work, you probably haven't experienced it correctly. It's like anything... just because you hire an expert, doesn't mean they are an 'actual' expert. Like all skills, an expert is needed to make it work. If there was a bullet-proof way to design everything, every company would be doing it well.
MYTH: Consistency leads to usability
It is certainly true that a consistent experience is good for users. But consistency is based on the user's mindset and not just the whole site being in the same font. When you understand the thoughts and feels in your customer's mind, you an cerntainly ensure a consitent experience. But just ensuring everything is in the same font/colour etc is not a guarantee to success.
HCD, UX, SD, CX... do I need them all?
CX (customer experience) / SD (service design) / UX (user experience) are all facets that make up the experience your user has with your brand. A good process will take all these into consideration and unlock the knowledge your business has. Every project is different. Sometimes you need more UX than CX and vise versa. The first step is knowing what you currently know and work from there.
MYTH: I need AI... the internet tells me so?
Like any technology, AI is a great way to solve a problem, become more efficent or take experiences to the next level. But, like most things, you first need what problems(s) you are trying to solve. Yes AI can design you a website or an app. But will your users actually want it? A lot of companies are spending a lot of money on AI but not all will succeed? Will you?
